Le Château Frontenac is the epithet of "the most photographed hotel in the world." It is also one of the monuments associated with Quebec City and the Province of Quebec.
Le Château Frontenac was named in honor of Louis de Buade, Count Frontenac, who was the first governor of the colony of New France from 1672 to 1682 and from 1689 to 1698. The castle was built near the historic site of the Quebec Citadel, the site of the old castle and next to Haldiman Dufferin Terrace covering the archaeological site of the fort and the castle of St. Louis.
